What is Gold Filled?Do not confuse Gold Filled with Gold Plate. To make gold-filled findings a solid gold layer of at least 10 karats is fused to a supporting metal base. This layer is 50 to 100 times thicker than plated gold. As the outer layer is solid gold, gold-filled findings look and wear as well as solid gold. |
What are boxjoint pliers and how do these compare to lapjoint?Lapjoint pliers are made by overlapping the two sides and riveting together. Each side is in contact with the other in just one place. Over time these work loose and the pliers become less effective.
Boxjoint pliers have a double layer on each side so when these are overlapped each side is in contact with the other in three places. These pliers move about less with use and will last much longer than lapjoint pliers. |
